    Derailed: Assessing Social Risks of Thailand’s High-Speed Railway

    As Thailand advances its high-speed railway development, our team conducted a comprehensive assessment of social safeguards to protect local communities. We evaluated Environmental Impact Assessments (EIAs), identifying gaps in addressing displacement, labor exploitation, and social risks. Through interviews with affected communities, we gained firsthand insights into social and environmental challenges posed by the development project. Our findings led to key recommendations for the government, private sector, and civil society organizations (CSOs) to strengthen protections and prevent exploitation. By bridging technical expertise with social safeguarding, our work supports a more ethical and responsible approach to infrastructure development.

Through extensive research, we examined working conditions, labor rights violations, and exploitative practices within the industry. By mapping the rubber value chain, we traced how raw materials move through the market, identifying key buyers and assessing their role in ethical sourcing. Our findings provided critical insights for the private sector, offering actionable recommendations on identifying and mitigating social risks in their supply chains.

    Guidelines on the Development of Sustainable Natural Rubber (SNR) Principles in Cambodia

    Our team conducted extensive research into Cambodia’s natural rubber supply chain, examining trade routes, value chains, and the relationship between smallholder farmers, large businesses, and rubber concessionaires. We identified key opportunities to improve sustainability through better practices in farming, sourcing, and production. We supported on developing a set of Sustainable Natural Rubber (SNR) Principles, establishing clear standards for responsible practices across the rubber value chain. Through stakeholder consultations, we verified these principles to ensure alignment with industry needs and local realities.

    Modern Energy Cooking Services (MECS): Exploring the Futures of Alternative Cooking Solutions in Cambodia

    Through community interviews, we gathered insights into cultural norms and cooking expectations, ensuring that proposed solutions would align with local practices and preferences. We evaluated a range of alternative clean cooking technologies to improve health and environmental outcomes in Cambodia, while conducting a thorough analysis of cooking stoves and fuels; including wood, LPG, charcoal, biogas, biomass, and electricity - exploring their respective supply chains and sustainability.

    We also assessed the financial feasibility of transitioning to cleaner cooking options, considering both cost-effectiveness and long-term benefits. Our findings led to innovative ideas for introducing clean cooking technologies in Cambodia, with recommendations aimed at driving adoption while improving both environmental and health outcomes.

    Final Evaluation of the HaLI Phase 1 Program in Phnom Penh

    Our team conducted a Program Evaluation of a sustainable and affordable housing program in Cambodia, assessing its implementation over a four-year period. We presented the findings through assessing the effectiveness, efficacy, sustainability, impact, and robustness of the HaLI Project; providing a thorough analysis of its strengths and areas for improvement. Through a SWOT and gap analysis, we also identified key challenges and opportunities, offering valuable insights into the program’s performance and scaling up for future phases.
